8U Development Program
We are thrilled to officially introduce our new Cedar Park Typhoons 8 & Under Development Program — a thoughtfully designed four-level pathway created to support and develop every swimmer from their very first team experience all the way to confident, competitive racing.
This program is built around one clear mission: a developmentally appropriate path for every swimmer. Each level focuses on safety, confidence, technique, and character — allowing swimmers to grow at the right pace.
All 8 & Under swimmers must attend evaluations on April 11 or April 25.
Please
bring a swimsuit, goggles, and a towel — we’ll supply the rest! *Please
note: We require all swimmers to be water safe, comfortable putting
their face in the water, and able to listen and participate in group
instruction. The 8U swimmers will not be required to swim a 25m lap for program registration.
Program Overview
Level One – Building Comfort, Confidence, and Joy
Swimmers
receive direct in-water support while developing foundational skills
such as floating, breath control, proper kick technique, and working
toward a consistent 25m kick with a board.
Level Two – Building Skills and Independence
Swimmers
refine freestyle and backstroke through drills focused on body
position, breathing, and efficiency. Athletes work toward swimming a
legal and technically consistent 25m freestyle and backstroke.
Level Three – Developing Technique, Discipline, and Resilience
Swimmers
who have strong freestyle and backstroke skills begin learning
breaststroke and butterfly. Structured drills break down each stroke
before combining them into full-stroke performance.
Level Four – Refinement, Goal-Setting, and Competitive Readiness
Swimmers
are legal in all four strokes and focus on endurance, race technique,
Individual Medley introduction, and preparation for 9–10 events.
Swimmers will work with the 8U Program Coach to select events.
